The butt or mirror welding technique is considered one of the most reliable and safe joining techniques for plastic pipes for gas and water transport. An additional advantage is its use in a large diameter range.
In recent years, experts from the field have revised and supplemented the 2004 standard. QS has been actively involved in the creation of this document.
This resulted in the publication of NEN 7200:2017, which sets out the requirements for achieving good quality butt-welded connections between PE pipes and/or spigot-end fittings. NEN 7200:2017 contains uniform agreements for making butt-welded connections in PE pipes for gas and drinking water. The existing criteria for assessing butt-welded joints have been elaborated in more detail. A new part of the standard is the application of (voluntary) traceability of the material & equipment used.
For more information on the practical implications of NEN 7200: 2017, please contact Mr Iljo Fluit on 088-1662000. In anticipation of grid operators’ requirements, inspections and tests in accordance with NEN7200: 2017 can be carried out by QS on request.
Our training and certification courses are currently being adapted to the requirements of the new standard, and will be offered from autumn 2017. Details can be found in the standard, which can be purchased via the NEN Standards Shop.
