During the installation of a PE piping system, the quality of the welded joints is of crucial importance. The quality of PE welding can be guaranteed by a number of checks and examinations:

  • Checking for preparations and welding parameters before the start of the welding process
  • Control during and after the welding process on site
  • Ultrasonic PAUT examination of field welding on site
  • Visual and mechanical examination of (test) welding in an independent laboratory

In our accredited laboratory we can carry out the following tests:

  • NTA 8828 – Electrofusion of PE pipes and PE fittings
  • VM 102 – Welding practice instructions PE electrofusion
  • NEN-EN 1555-3 – Plastics piping systems for the supply of gaseous fuels – Polyethylene (PE) – Part 3: Fittings
  • ISO 13954 – Peel decohesion test for polyethylene (PE) electrofusion assemblies > 90 mm
  • ISO 13955 – Crushing decohesion test for polyethylene (PE) electrofusion assemblies < 90 mm
  • ISO 13956 – Decohesion test of polyethylene (PE) saddle fusion joints — Evaluation of ductility of fusion joint interface by tear test

Destructive testing in our own laboratory

Normec QS has laboratory facilities for the preparation and testing of PE electrofusion welding, here both field welding (on a sample basis) and test welding in accordance with the applicable standards (NTA 8828) can be tested.
